I remember TV CF of Panasonic (it was in 1995 and 1996), with music, WHAT’S NEW, and with very impressive closing, ”ヤルモンダ” (you did it !!). It was of Hank Jones.
Hank Jones served Visiting Professor at Osaka College of Music from 1992, since then more frequently he visited Japan, then maybe it lead to TV CF.
Talking about Osaka College of Music, there is a live recording album of Hank Jones with The Winds Jazz Orchestra (college band), FAVORS (1996). 5 tunes are of The Wind Jazz Orchestra, On Green Dolphin Street, I Got It Bad, How High The Moon, A Child Is born and Armageddon.
Again, Talking about Osaka College of Music, Japanese bass master, Yosuke Inoue participated in The Great Jazz Trio in 1998 and released WHAT’S NEW. (Hank Jones (p), Yosuke Inoue (b) and Ben Riley (ds), and guest, Teodross Avery (ts))
Oh, I can not stop imagining an “invisible thread” between Hank Jones and Yosuke Inoue through OSAKA COLLEGE OF MUSIC and WHAT’S NEW !!
There is also other collaboration. Surprisingly, he released an album with Japanese popular female singer, Peggy Hayama !!
It’s Been A Long Time (1991)
Peggy Hayama (vo), Hank Jones (p), Satoru Oda (ts), Ken Peplowski (ts), Marcus McLaurine (b) and Keith Copeland (ds).
Also, following, YOSAKOI IN JAZZ (1992), are all in Japanese !!
Peggy Hayama (vo), Hank Jones (p), Satoru Oda (ts), Warren Vache (cor), Mads Vinding (b) and Billy Hart (ds)
Oh how charming Hank is, and in wide variety !!!
