This is my individual stories that I was working at Jazz Cafe in Osaka as a part-timer 40 years ago.
After passing entrance gate of the university, which was my dream to start my brilliant student life, however, of course real life was not the same one as dreamed.
Every day working at jazz cafe as a waiter after study at university was in fact tough…
It is OK. Forgot it. Just I remember that there was JBL PARAGON at jazz cafe second floor.
That jazz cafe in Osaka named BAMBI had 3 floors. On each floor there was JBL speaker. (on the 1st and 3rd, I forgot the name)
Point was that Bambi had a strategy to cover several type of jazz fan 40 years ago !!
1st floor= major customers were short visit or just waiting for friends, therefore speaker sounds were rather soft.
2nd floor= major customers were for PARAGON. Yes, it was so outstanding.
3rd floor= major customers were more serious for jazz.Maybe most authentic speaker of JBL.
Still there are several PARAGONS working active in Japan. Some of the cafes, we see the same type of use to cover several types of the customers.
Even 40 years ago, they studied widely a lot how to develop jazz cafe business and culture !!!

今一度個人的な経歴ですみません。
東京を目指した愛知の若者は残念ながら失敗が重なり、行き先は大阪になってしまいました。（それでもその後は晴れて？就職で東京に出てそのままでいます。）
待ちに待った一人暮らしの学生生活。
しかし、言うまでもなく現実というのは決してバラ色にはならないのですが、それは別の話です。
ともあれ、一人暮らしの始めに、早速アルバイトを探しました。大阪キタの阪急東通り商店街にあった「バンビ」。（残念なことがこの時期あまりに多いのですが、夏休みに所要で実家に長く帰る必要ができ、戻るのを待ってもらえなかったため、数か月の短い勤務でした）
キタのバンビです。3階建てで、1Fは気軽に入れる感じで、2Fに「パラゴン」を置きパラゴン客目当ての集客、3Fには機材名は覚えていないのですがJBLのもう少し本格の客向けに特化（私はオーディオには超初心者であくまでも当時の3F勤務の先輩の言葉です）。
バンビがいつパラゴンを導入したのか不明なのですが、日本のジャズ喫茶の歴史の中でも早いほうではないでしょうか？（詳しい方はもちろんいらっしゃいます）。
私が感銘を受けたのは、1978年当時既に３階のそれぞれに特色を備え、幅広い客層を捉えようとした戦略でした。
パラゴンというと吉祥寺のFUNKYが真っ先に思い起こされます。野口さんがパラゴンを入れられたのは1973年頃でしょうか。やはりバンビ同様に「多層階での多角化」のようです。
また、新宿では中平さんはDIGを1961年に拓き、1967年には新趣向のDUGを、更に1977年にNEW DUGを展開されています。（2000年に現在のDUGに至る）。
現在、特に東京では非常に様々な形態のジャズ喫茶が頑張っていて、選択肢が多様にあるのが非常にありがたいのですが、1960年代70年代既に「時代を先取る」経営が随所に見られた。そんなところでの展開がジャズ喫茶の今での存続の大きな核であるのは間違いないし、「日本の文化」の鍵の一つでもあると思います。
