前稿でタイプーサムへの関心を述べながら、「さすがにこの時期にマレーシアなりシンガポールに出向いてみるのは、そこまでは難しそう」などとネガティブな言い方をしてしまいましたが、何回か投稿しました通り、香港マラソン（１月１８日）の機会に、タイプーサム（２月１日）までカバーする旅を企画してしまいました。気持ちは強く持つものですね。
深圳の後でシンガポール入りして、ジョホールバル→マラッカ、そしてKLでタイプーサム本番を迎え、トランジットの関係でホーチミンに寄ってから帰国します。このうち、タイプーサムの行進が確認できたのが、シンガポール、ジョホールバル、KLです。
・シンガポール
スリ・スリニヴァサ・ペルマル寺院→スリ・タンダユタパニ寺院
これ約3.2kmの距離です。これなら歩ける！
・ジョホールバル
ここ、調べるのに難航しました。
出発地点は、JBのリトルインディアのど真ん中のJB Mariamman Temple で、間違いなさそうなのですが、終点が、ChatGPT 経由で調べても、どうもよくわからない。Google Map では、下記Arulmigu Thandayuthapani Temple でJohor Bahru を入れても出てこなくて、情報源からいろいろ調べると、寺院の名前ではなく住所から、何となくここかな、というところがわかりました。ほんとかな？！２０－３０分くらいで歩けそうなので、ここも歩いてみます！

ちなみにですが、ヒンドゥー表記かタミル表記の複雑さなのかわかりませんが、寺院名も英語表記で一本化ができずに、複数名がしばしばあって混乱します。しかもJB Mariamman Temple においては、Arulmigu Rajamariamman Temple という名前の寺院がGoogle Map 上に隣り合わせて出てくるので、どうなっているの？あれ、本当に２軒なのかって悩んだものです。Google Map に優しく情報開示してくださいよ。。。
・KL
最後はKLです。ここはふんだんに投稿がありますし、間違いないです。問題は距離で、１４ｋｍもあるとさすがに歩けないので、Batu Caves まではバスかMRTで移動することになるでしょう。いろいろノウハウも開示されているのでありがたいです。何といっても総本山のようなもので、旅を締めるのに、これ以上の場所はなさそうな気がしてきます(笑)。さあ、どんな纏めができますかね！！

In my previous post, while expressing interest in Thaipusam, I somewhat pessimistically wrote, “It would be difficult to actually go to Malaysia or Singapore at that time of year.” However, as I’ve mentioned in several posts since then, I’ve ended up planning a trip that covers both the Hong Kong Marathon (January 18) and Thaipusam (February 1). It really shows how powerful determination can be.
After visiting Shenzhen, I’ll head to Singapore, then travel through Johor Bahru → Malacca, and finally reach Kuala Lumpur for the main Thaipusam celebration. On the way back, I’ll stop by Ho Chi Minh City due to transit arrangements before returning home. Among these, I’ve confirmed that Thaipusam processions can be seen in Singapore, Johor Bahru, and Kuala Lumpur.
Singapore
The route goes from Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple to Sri Thandayuthapani Temple—about 3.2 km. That’s definitely walkable!
Johor Bahru
This one was tough to research.
The starting point seems to be JB Mariamman Temple, right in the heart of Little India in Johor Bahru—that much seems certain.
But as for the endpoint, even after checking through ChatGPT and other sources, it wasn’t very clear. When I tried searching Arulmigu Thandayuthapani Temple with “Johor Bahru” on Google Maps, nothing came up directly. After digging through several sources, I managed to locate what seems to be the correct place—not by temple name, but by its address. Hopefully that’s right! It looks like it’s about a 20–30 minute walk, so I’ll try walking it myself!
By the way, I’m not sure whether it’s because of the complexity of Hindu or Tamil spellings, but there seems to be no standardized English spelling for temple names—there are often multiple variations, which causes confusion. To make things worse, when I looked up JB Mariamman Temple, Arulmigu Rajamariamman Temple also appeared right next to it on Google Maps, making me wonder, “Wait, are there actually two separate temples?” Please, Google Maps, be kinder and give us clearer information!
Kuala Lumpur
Finally, we have KL. There are already plenty of posts about this, so there’s no room for doubt. The only issue is the distance—it’s about 14 km, so walking is out of the question. I’ll probably take a bus or MRT to Batu Caves. Luckily, there’s a lot of practical information available online. Since Batu Caves is like the “head temple” of Thaipusam celebrations, I feel there’s no better place to end this journey (lol).
Now then, I wonder what kind of summary I’ll be able to write after it all!
