SPECIAL LIVE IN JAPAN ①-LIVE UNDER THE HEAVY RAIN-

“LIVE UNDER THE SKY” was the would famous jazz festival in Japan. It had a long history from 1977 until 1992. So many top musicians from all over the world including from Japan were performed.

LIVE UNDER THE SKY は1977年から1992年まで続いた世界的に有名であったジャズフェスです。

There were several legends. The most famous one should be LIVE UNDER THE HEAVY RAINFALL IN 1979, especially on the performance by VSOP.

たくさんの伝説を生みました。最も有名なのは「雨の田園コロシアム」と言われた1979年のものでしょう。

The V.S.O.P. Quintet ‎– Live Under The Sky (1979)

Many times I heard the word,”INTEGRATED FEELING” or so. However, we can say, THIS IS THE INTEGRATED FEELING between musicians and audiences.

「ミュージシャンと観客との一体感」とよく言われます。たぶんこのときの経験を念頭に人々は言うのでしょう！

①　Even under a heavy rain, none of the audiences would not leave the place but cheering became more and more hot, which made musician’s incredible performance.

急な大雨でずぶぬれになっても観客は誰も席を立とうとしない。その熱気がミュージシャンに伝わり類まれな熱演を生んだ。

② After the too heavy rain, it could not be expected of encore, as far as normal sense, however, audience were long time waiting for the encore by 20 minutes with applause.

こんな大雨の後でアンコールなど期待できるものではないと誰もが知りつつ、それでも席を立つことができずに20分もの間ただ拍手を続けた。

Finally, Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock were coming to them and gave them “STELLA BY STARLIGHT” and “ON GREEN DOLPHIN STREET”.

それに応えたのがWAYNE SHORTERと HERBIE HANCOCK

This is exactly Very Special One time Performance.

これこそまさにVSOPなのでしょう！

(Furthermore during that encore, suddenly rain was stopped !!)

（更に奇跡は続きこのアンコールの間にあれほどの大雨がやんだのです）

Foreign musicians usually talked about “hot and/or warm spirits of Japanese Jazz fan”

I do not think it needs more example.

The only pity is that I could not attend on that live performance !!

昔から海外のミュージシャンが日本に来て、異口同音にファンの温かさを仰ります。他に事例など不要ですよね。

For ref, LIVE UNDER THE SKY is started with VSOP in 1977, then it is closed with VSOP again in 1992 as for TRIBUTE TO MILES DAVIS (1926-1991). There should be some meaning.

ちなみに、LIVE UNDER THE SKY は1977年にVSOPで始まり1992年にまたVSOPでMILES DAVISのTRIBUTEで終わっています。そもそもVSOPは黄金のクインテットのTPだけを交代させたSPECIAL BANDです。FUSION全盛期に風を戻し直し、MILES 亡きあと幕を閉じました。
