ART BLAKEY, ELVIN JONES TRIBUTED GEORGE KAWAGUCHI FOR 40 YEARS ANNIVERSARY !!

George Kwaguchi (Jun.15,1927- Nov.01, 2003)

Art Blakey (Oct.11,1919- Oct.16, 1990)

Elvin Jones (Sep.09-1927- May 18, 2004)

All three are top drum legends, of course.

It was on Jun 10, 1985, the 40 years anniversary event was held at Budokan, Tokyo, inviting Art Blakey, Elvin Jones and so many other guests !!

George Kawaguchi (ds), Elvin Jones(ds), Art Blakey(ds), Terence Blanchard(tp), Sadao Watanabe (as),Hidehiko Matsumoto (ts), Hideo Ichikawa (p), Isao Suzuki (b), Takashi Mizuhashi (b), Seichi Nakamura (ts), Yosuke Yamashita (p), Hachidai Nakamura (p)
Terumasa Hino (tp), Kazumi Watanabe (g), Hara Nobuo and Sharps&Flats.

Flankly speaking, it looked like advanced “tributing concert”, however, for me, most surprized one is George Kawaguchi and Yosuke Yamashita DUO. The style of two great musicians are so different. On that day, it looked that George Kawaguchi adopted Yosuke Yamashita in his style.

What an accomplishing face after performance Yosuke Yamashita’s was !!

Also, there showed consistent respect each other.
