THE AWESOME 3, MASABUMI KIKUCHI, GARY PEACOCK AND MASAHIKO TOGASHI in 1994

JAZZその他音楽

Is this Keith Jarrett STANDARD TRIO ??

No, this is GREAT 3, with Masabumi Kikuchi, Gary Peacock and Masahiko Togashi.

Great 3 Kikuchi=Peacock=Togashi – Begin the Beguine (Full Album)

Masabumi Kikuchi (Oct.19,1939- Jul.6, 2015)

He was a pianist so called, “proudly independent”, like Gil Evans. Far from popularity.

It was famous that he had session with Miles Davis in 1978, however, its sounds are never released. His album, SUSTO (1981) is from CBS.

Gary Peacock (May 12, 1935- Sep.4, 2020)

Around 1970, in two years, stayed In Japan. A lot of Oriental taste in his music.

Of course Keith Jarrett STANDARD TRIO is most popular.

Masahiko Togashi (Mar.22, 1940- Aug.22, 2007)

He is called “genious” at his youth as a drummer. However, because of an accident in 1970, he could not play normal drum, then he made up his own percussion using only hands like drumming.

He is definitely one of the virtuoso in Japan jazz.

These 3 awesome masters made a session 1994, and released “BEGIN THE BEGUINE”

  1. Summertime, 2. Skylark, 3. Walts Step, 4. Misty, 5. My Favorite Things, 6. Kansago- No (beautiful bass solo!!), 7. Begin the Beguine, 8. Coral Spring, 9. Laura, 10. Bley’s Triad, 11. Home on the Range

Before studio recording in April, they performed at Shinjuku Pit Inn in March.

Including that live performance recording, and other non-released, “COMPLETE SESSIONS in 1994” was released in 2020.(in 4 CDs!!)

Both are very valuable !!
