昨年に続き池袋のフロリダ亭で、スリランカ、シンハラタミルのお正月をお祝いしてきました。
本日４月１４日がちょうどお正月ですね。
සුභම සුභ අලුත් අවුරුද්දක් වේවා..!🙏♥️ Happy New Year!
去年同様に、様々なお正月のお祝いスイーツを提供していただきました。終盤の参加で、料理は補充をしてもらえているものの撮影のタイミング悪いところは申し訳ありません💦。
やっぱりお正月のお祝いの主役はキリバットのような気がします。大好きなココナッツミルクライス。
今回は息子につきあってもらったこともあり、メインの料理は、バナナリーフカレーとコットゥー＋カトゥレット。家族と一緒だと、複数楽しめるし、気を使わなくてもいいので料理にも専念できるし一番いいパターンですね。
とにかく昨年新鮮に感動したのは、シンハラ＋タミルの共同開催です。とはいえ、本当のことを言えば、例えばフロリダ亭の運営であれば、シンハラがメインになります。タミルが主体になったニューイヤーのお祝いがどんなものか、ぜひ知りたいのです。南インドのタミル地方であれば、シンハラタミルにはなりませんからね。
これ、可能なのは、KLに行ってみることです。前回KLを訪問したときに、KLのリトルコロンボと言ってもイイのではと思われる地域を歩き廻りました。そのときの結論、「KLのシンハラタミルの主体はタミルです」
というわけで、次回たぶん来年とはいかないのでしょうが、４月１４日前後にKLの現場でスリランカ系の人々の新年のお祝いに何等かの形で参加してみたいと思います。日本と同じようにシンハラタミルと言わないかなあ？
ただのタミルニューイヤーはプタンドゥ/ PUTHANDUと呼ばれるので、シンハラタミルにはならないのかもしれません。
とにかく「多文化」を専ら深めていきたい身としては、スリランカ絡みであればKLに何度も足を運んでいきたいですね。あっ、もちろん池袋のフロリダ亭は言うまでもなく！

Following last year, I went to celebrate the Sri Lankan Sinhala and Tamil New Year at Florida-tei in Ikebukuro again. Today, April 14, is exactly New Year’s Day.

Just like last year, they served a variety of traditional New Year sweets. I joined toward the end, and although the food was being replenished, I apologize that some photos didn’t turn out well due to poor timing 💦
As expected, the star of the New Year celebration feels like kiribath—the coconut milk rice that I love so much.
This time, since my son joined me, we shared the main dishes: banana leaf curry, kottu, and cutlets. When you’re with family, you can enjoy a wider variety, and it’s nice not having to worry about anything—you can really focus on the food. It’s the best setup.
What impressed me so freshly again this year was that the event was jointly hosted by both Sinhala and Tamil communities. That said, to be honest, in a place like Florida-tei, the Sinhala side tends to be the main focus. I’d really love to experience what a Tamil-led New Year celebration is like. After all, in Tamil Nadu in South India, it wouldn’t be called Sinhala-Tamil New Year.
To make that happen, I think I’d need to visit Kuala Lumpur. When I went there previously, I walked around an area that could almost be called “Little Colombo.” My conclusion at the time was: “In Kuala Lumpur, the Sri Lankan community is predominantly Tamil.”
So next time—though it probably won’t be next year—I’d like to visit Kuala Lumpur around April 14 and try to take part in a Sri Lankan New Year celebration there in some way. I wonder if they even call it Sinhala-Tamil New Year like in Japan? Since the Tamil New Year alone is called Puthandu, maybe it wouldn’t be referred to that way.
In any case, as someone who wants to keep deepening my understanding of multiculturalism, I’d love to visit Kuala Lumpur many more times when it comes to Sri Lankan culture. And of course, needless to say, I’ll keep going back to Florida-tei in Ikebukuro too!
