Toshiyuki Miyama& New Herd Orchestra had a performance in Monterey Jazz Festival in 1974.
It is said that was the first case for Japanese big band to have a performance at foreign major jazz festival, and got an extremely high praise.
Video is, unfortunately, not so clear, however, it should be a precious record apparently.
It had been step by step that Japanese jazz developed and on the way to be accepted in the world !!
There were special guests of Dizzy Gillespie, Jerome Richardson, Mongo Santamaria and others!
Tunes in the video;
– Sniper’s Snooze (composed and arranged by Masahiko Sato)
The complete recording is in TRIO RECORD PA 3038-39.
La Fiesta (Chick Corea) was one of the high impacted tune, included in record, but not in the video. Following is in another performance.
