Manhattan Jazz Quintet (original member: Lew Soloff (tp), George Young (ts), David Matthews (p), Charnett Mofett and Steve Gadd (ds)), released their first album, “MANHATTAN JAZZ QUINTET” in 1984.
In fact it is project of idea from Japanese firm, KING RECORD and SWING JOURNAL, therefore their main field is in Japan. Anyway long maintained project since 1984 !!
Steve Gadd participated in 9 albums !!
MANHATTAN JAZZ QUINTET (1984)
AUTUMN LEAVES (1985)
MY FUNNY VALENTINE (1986)
LIVE AT PIT INN (1986)
THE SIDE WINDER (1986)
MY FAVORITE THINGS, LIVE IN TOKYO (1987)
MANHATTAN BLUES (1990)
CONCIERTO DE ARANJUEZ (1994)
V.S.O.P (2008)
(Basically all of the members are so busy, there has been so many member change.)
They had recording, LIVE IN JAPAN, twice.
One is LIVE AT PIT INN (1986). It is ROPPONGI PIT INN. (The first recording at ROPPONGI PIT INN!!)
The second one is “MY FAVORITE THINGS, LIVE IN TOKYO” recorded at Nakano Sun Plaza in 1987.
At that time, it was very fresh for 4 BEAT performance by those members not in mainstream jazz.
