Joni Mitchell visited Japan twice. One is in 1983,and the other in 1994. In 1994, it was an unforgettable event, which was performed in front of TODAIJI TEMPLE !!
It was a kind of “EAST MEETS WEST”, coordinated by UNESCO, called “THE GREAT MUSIC EXPERIENCE“. So many musicians joined from west and from Japan, like Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Wayne Shorter, Koji Tamaki, Tomoyasu Hotei and Toshinori Kondo and so on and on.
Todaiji is one of the most famous Japanese Buddhist Temple in Nara prefecture. It is one of the largest wooden building in the world.

It is unfortunate that THE GREAT MUSIC EXPERIENCE was not continuous. It was only in Japan, even though the initial plan was also in Egyptian Pyramids, in Taj Mahal and in Chinese Palace….. Probably just postponed to see them shortly !!
