Shimokitazawa is the area which is very famous for younger age culture.
However, I am not sure how it is popular for foreign visitors because it is a little bit far from Tokyo metropolis like Shinjuku, Ginza, Shibuya. However, just less than10 minutes ride on a train from Shinjuku or Shibuya. It is convenient for foreign visitors.
Frankly speaking I myself am not so familiar, however, even me, I know it is very famous for 2nd hand closes, mini-theater and literature. It is very interesting to walk around.
Then, the most important point is JAZZ🎹🎷
It was in 1953 !!, when Jazz Cafe, MASAKO was born in Shimokitazawa. Oh, 7 years before I was born. Of course there should be so many talks about its long history. Just here in compact;
1953= Birth by the 1st owner, Ms.Okuda (Masako).
1984= Transfered to the 2nd owner,Mr.Fukushima because of god callings to Masako-san.
2009= Need to be closed because of administration order. (restructuring of those area)
2020= Re-open by the 3rd owner, moe-san. 🙌🙌
Oh! complicated enough. (more stories to be followed later, especially on the difficulties of transfer)
Atmosphere of the cafe= Very traditional. Probably moe-san is trying to keep Masako-san’s passion.
Main collections are vinyl LP. Heavy 60′ music is coming from heavy JBL speakers upward.
Visitors are unconsciously viewing Masako-san in MASAKO. This is so-called, URBAN LEGEND. Thank you.
Anyway here it is the place where visitors can feel ’60 and ’70 when there was the HOT Jazz cafe boom in Tokyo !!
