DIG + DUG = LEADING JAZZ CAFE CULTURE IN JAPAN

It was 1961, when Mr.Nakadaira, owner of current DUG opened DIG in Shinjuku.

Oh, 60 years ago !! Needs celebrations !!!

(It was said in November 1961. An another information is in February 1961….)

Jazz cafe is very unique culture of Japan. Why it could be continuous so long ??

I think the most important point is that;

Match of seriousness between owner and visitors to listen to jazz.

It was great pity that I had no chance to visit jazz cafe in Tokyo at the hottest era in 60s or early 70s, however, I can feel it, because the essence to be serious to listen to jazz is the same. All were fixed at that time, and continuously being succeeded. Thank you very much for DUG and other cafes !!

There are so many jazz cafe in Japan, in Tokyo. Some are strictly keeping those seriousness (like no talking in cafe!!), some are more relaxing with alcohol. In any way both have not so difference, I feel. All there we can enjoy listening jazz !

Question is the future. That should be up to our side…..
