SUCCESSION OF CHICK’S “JOY TO PLAY”

JAZZその他音楽

It was in 1997 that Hiromi Uehara firstly met Chick Corea at Yamaha studio, Japan, then the next day she got a chance to play together even in a short tune at Chick’s concert.

Almost 10 years later, 2nd encounter was at Tokyo Jazz Festival in 2006.

On 3rd September;

Chick Corea (p) and Hiromi Uehara (p) duo.

  1. Summertime 2. Bolivar Blues 3. Improvisation 4. Windows 5. Humpty Dumpty 6. All Blues

(They played together on the day as for GRAND FINALE at The Great Jazz Trio with special guest, “Someday My Prince Will Come”.)

The next day, there was a proposal of recording of duo album at BLUE NOTE TOKYO. Then there made “DUET, CHICK AND HIROMI” (eye-catch photo)

The attached is play at Tokyo Blue Note together with some interview comments of Chick and Hiromi. We see how impressive the first encounter was by Chick with Hiromi in 1997 !!

However, it is interesting to hear his honesty that after the first encounter, however, he forgot her so long, then later realized again when he got CD of Hiromi from his friend.

“You must listen her !!”

“Who is this crazy lady !!!???”

Chick Corea meets Hiromi Uehara – Tokyo Jazz 2006

Anyway anyway, story is just a story. Important point is this “FACES WITH FULL JOY“.

This is No.1 point of my “HIROMI IS A SUCCESSOR OF CHICK’S JOY TO PLAY

Of course nowadays the world admit Hiromi Uehara’s global fame and talent.

My 2nd point is the recent her develop of her performance after her strong TRIO PROJECT with Anthony Jackson (b) and Simon Phillips (ds).

  • Duo with Akiko Yano (vo, p) 「ラーメンな女たち」 This is very funny !! (2017)
矢野顕子/上原ひろみ-「そこのアイロンに告ぐ」
  • Hiromi with Edmar Castaneda (tap dance) (2017)

She developed her performance and in all of them, “SHE LOOKS ENJOYING”.
