Sadao Watanabe moved to Berkeley Music College in 1962, and returned back to Japan in 1965. During his stay there, he established strong friendship with Gary McFarland to be familiar with Brazilian music, and was much impressed in Sergio Mendes & Brasil ’65.
(To be frank at first he felt it was too soft…. however later it became very calm and natural. It is really of his character!!)
After he returned back to japan, energetically he tried to introduce Brazilian music and made several albums. One of the culmination is “SADAO MEETS BRAZILIAN FRIENDS” (1968)

After that as well, several concerts were held. One of the important one is LIVE UNDER THE SKY ’79, Brazilian Night.
Top player was Elis Regina who visited to Japan for the first time (then unfortunately the last).
Sadao joined there as special guest.
Also, he made a performance with HERMETO PASCOAL、CHINO BATERA、Hélio Delmiro、ITIBERE LUIS ZWARG、REALCINO LIMA FIHO.
In 1988, Sadao released “ELIS”, simply dedicated to Elis Regina. Beautiful !!
