Roppongi is an entertainment district mainly for night play. Frankly speaking I am not so familiar there, because it is so called, “for young exective” or so. Anyway, sometimes I went there, even for me, I felt fascinating atmosphere. Especially to see TOKYO TOWER over there.
In such a place in ROPPONGI, there used to be a sacred place for Japan fusion, “ROPPONGI PIT INN (1977- 2004)” Sister club of SHINJUKU PIT INN.
In one talking, Japan fusion boom was in explode by Lee Ritenour and his gentle thoughts live at PIT INN (Oct.1077) Since then, so many Japanese musicians and foreign musicians had been performing very hot gigs.
As per my study, Steve Gadd played there 4 times.
STEPS/ SMOKING IN THE PIT (1979) with Mike Mainieri (vib), Michael Brecker (ts), Eddie Gomez (b) and Don Grolnic (p)
MANHATTAN JAZZ QUINTET (1986) with David Matheus (p), Lew Soloff (tp), George Young (ts), and Eddie Gomez (b)
THE GADD GANG (1st, 1986) with Ronnie Cuber (bs), Cornell Dupree (g), Richard Tee (p) and Eddie Gomez (b)
The GADD GANG (2nd 1988) with Cornell Dupree (g), Richard Tee (p) and Eddie Gomez (b).
All four types are different. Really Steve Gadd is all round player !! It is interesting that 4 times all with Eddie Gomez !!
Every listener should have his own preference. If we interview on him, “which performance was your greatest”, probably he would reply that “each one has each the best”, or so.
I like STEPS with Michael Brecker !!
