5-2, SINGAPORE: AGONY OF TOUGHNESS TO FIND IDENTITY

旅・食

WHAT IS THE MOST SINGAPORE-LIKE SINGAPORE ??

AA: Probably the reply of the major might be: “MERLION and MARINA BAY SANDS”.

Merlion is apparently iconic symbol of Singapore. Probably the top of sightseers to be chosen at first to visit.

Marina Bay Sand: Official open in June 2010 (full open in Feb.2011). It might be one of the top class dream for sightseers to SWIM in the pool at the highest location in the world!

Both in the bay area. Around 20 minutes walk opposite of Marina Bay.

Singapore is one of the forefront city in the world in terms of development. This area is the symbol of this.

BB: Traditional area like Chinatown, Little India.

Even though those are not so spotlighted than Marina Bay area, however, in fact, those area are of the place of origin. (74% of Chinese people, 13% of Malay and 9% of Indian)

My strong impression at the first visit to Singapore was Chinatown.

Unfortunately, currently atmosphere is changed not a little. Of course, DEVELOPPED for sightseeing industries, however, still I could feel relaxed to walk around a little bit far from the main street.

CC THE MAD CHINAMAN, DICK LEE

In 1989, THE MAD CHINAMAN was released by Dick Lee, who developed “Asian Pops” at the first stage. Born in 1956 in the family of wealth Peranakan.

His consistent message is “What is the identity of Singapore people ?”

I got his message through MAD CHINAMAN in 1989 (or 1990), and was heavily impacted.

YES, economy is so developed, society is so sophisticated. But with a vulnerable history.

What is the major purpose of our life ?

He is consistently insisting his agony, wrapped by colorful music.

I walked around places in Singapore to look for the smell of DICK LEE.

It is difficult…
