There is one tough issue to talk about Jazz cafe culture in Japan.
It is “talking inside cafe is not allowed”.
Around 50 years ago, when such culture was peak in Japan, we heard such “rule” was rather common. However, as time passed, there was a change, one by one. Only a few cafes, as far as I know, keep such rule. NUTTY is the ONE.
I can understand it is not so comfortable to be forced so, because one of the major reason to visit cafe is to talk with friends, or families. (Think about Paris cafe, who can imagine that they keep silent at cafe…..)
Anyway, it is the rule to be settle by cafe which we need to follow.
We just visit cafe, then take on the vacant seat. And order drinks (it is allowed to order on verbal…)
After that, just concentrate on listening jazz. If we have someone would like to listen, usually we can request it.
Heavy sounds were fully spreading throughout cafe……
YES !! This is to respect giants.
Or it is OK to think about library. Nobody think it is allowed to be noisy there.
There are several characters in each cafe. Some cafes, we can be rather feel free to enjoy talks (but it is better to restrict a little). Some cafe, we will concentrate on respecting jazz giants. This is also to enjoy jazz cafe. Thank you very much for reading.
