Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea are both considered as Japan Love Musicians. In fact he joined 8 times in Tokyo Jazz (He accepted to be a musical producer of Tokyo jazz at its start.)(Chick Corea, 3 times.)
However, frankly speaking we wonder why it takes time to remind Japanese musicians who had collaboration with Herbie. Quickly for Chick, like Sadao Watanabe, Hiromi Uehara…..
Anyway, here we go, Kimiko Kasai. She was at the top of female jazz vocalist then.
Butterfly (1979) It is THE COLLABORATION between Herbie Hancock and Kimiko Kasai.
Herbie provided his 6 tunes here.
- I Thought It Was You, 2. Tell Me a Bedtime Story, 3. Head In The Clouds, 4. Maiden Voyage, 5. Harvest Time, 6. Sunlight, 7. Butterfly, 8. As (Stevie Wonder)
Herbie Hancock (key), Webster Lewis (org), Paul Jackson (b), Ray Obiedo (g), Alphonse Mouzon (ds), Bill Summers (perc) and Bennie Maupin (sax).
Ahhhh, this is the music in 1979 !! At the peak of fusion. Feel like going out for dancing !!!
Herbie Hancock is very skillful musician, depends on period and surroundings. He was one of a fastest runner in fusion. His FUTURE SHOCK (1983) is much impacted.
However, his such direction was sometimes for me, hard to catch…. His core should be orthodox, acoustic piano !!
