It maybe an imaginary paradise, where anybody would like to stay.

5,000 light years ahead. Oh, too far away!! However, when there is nice music, it is just ahead. In fact, always I feel the fundamental relax when I listen to BIRDLAND by WEATHER REPORT or MANHATTAN TRANSFER.

想像上の”楽園”なのでしょう。誰だってそこに住みたくなるような。
BIRDLANDはどこにあるのですか？
5000光年も先。えっ、そんな離れたところ？ いえいえ、それにふさわしいいい音楽さえあれば、すぐ先に感じられるものなのです。

Covered by MANHATTAN TRANSFER on EXTENSIONS (vocalese) on 1979.
It is said that before Jaco Pastrious joined, Weather Report used to be considered as “too much conceptual”. Then, Jaco Pastrious put an animal-like straight energy into WR. As a result, it is sublimed into BIRDLAND WORLD, where people have calm but necessary power to face forward.
Furthermore, then there came collaboration with Manhattan Transfer. Complicated melody with simple and straight covering at surface. More popularity came. I think it is another greatest peak.
JACO PASTRIOUS加入前のWEATHER REPORTは、「観念的すぎる」とも言われていました。それがJACOの加入で天性の動物的ともいえるエネルギーをWRに注入し、その結果BIRDLANDの世界に昇華・結実することができたのです。
そして更にManhattan Transfer とのコラボレーション。複雑な曲の表面をシンプルにポップにコーティングして更に大ヒットを生み出しました。双璧とも言えますね。
I think it is much worthy to listen to such clean and warm-hearted music which gives us power to face forward, under current desolate world by COVID19.
